Jan/Feb Meet the Maker: The Rich + Clean
Here’s our Craftly Jan/Feb Meet the Maker interview with The Rich + Clean. We featured their travel-sized face wash in our January/February 2017 “Awake” Craftly box. I love how its silky texture soothes my skin! While other brands may have an overpowering scent, this face wash gives just enough for a good whiff and calmly strips away the oils and buildup on your face. Just like its name, this product can make you feel rich and clean. It’s the right size for those on-the-go.
Dig into this brand!
Can you tell us about The Rich + Clean and the people behind it?
We are a small family run company trying to produce high quality botanical based skin and body care products at an affordable price point.
What’s your company culture like?
We are design nerds and that blends into all aspects of our company.
What is your brand philosophy?
Make great anything!
Describe what led you to where you are now with your company.
We started out making soap “just for the fun of it”. We wanted to create a natural “masculine” soap as we felt there was a lack of these in the market. After we finalized our soaps, we still weren’t a “brand” with just a few bars of soap, so we decided that in order to have a viable brand we needed a full product line. We did about 2 years of R&D with a lot of trial and error until we created a “complete” product line.
What’s the most exciting experience you’ve had since your business started?
We did our first show last summer and writing our first wholesale order was pretty rad.
Tell us about the new standard face wash we featured in our Jan/Feb box!
Our goal for creating this face wash was to create a face wash that could run the gamut of skin types. This is a difficult task, but we think we got it! We incorporated a lot of skin calming botanical extracts that are known for their soothing and balancing attributes which work well with all skin types.
Can you give us an example of what not to do when running a business?
I would say don’t ever get comfortable…you always have to be onto “the next” thing in order to stay relevant.
What has been the biggest challenge in running the company?
Doing everything with only a few people. We do everything in-house (graphics, labeling, bottling, blending, testing, web, packing, shipping, show displays…everything). It’s draining, but also gives us complete control of the end products.
Anything else you’d like to share with our Craftly community?
We are extremely excited to have been invited into the Craftly family. We hope you enjoy our products as much as we enjoy making them.
